Honourable Lesego Chombo is the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs for Botswana and a Specially Elected Member of Parliament. Appointed at age 26, she is the youngest cabinet minister in Africa. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment and leads Botswana’s Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gender-Based Violence, spearheading national efforts in prevention and survivor support.
A qualified Attorney, Minister Chombo practiced law in Botswana’s courts prior to her political appointment. Her work in government is defined by a commitment to legislative reform, including the advancement of comprehensive Gender-Based Violence legislation and digital safety for women. Beyond her public office, she is the founder of the Lesego Chombo Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to empowering underprivileged children and families in rural communities.
